This year the Stingrays club is offering a new opportunity for children interested in playing inline hockey. The Rookie League is an in-house competition open to all ages regardless of experience or skills. Most kids who've come along so far have never played before and many have never skated but it doesn't seem to stop them having a fantastic time. And by the way parents, this is an INDOOR winter sport! No more standing in the rain on the sidelines. Inline hockey is a unique, fast and exciting sport for players and spectators alike. And the kids love it!
 
The aim of the league is to provide skating/hockey coaching for players at minimum cost so that new players can have a go and see if it is for them. There is no travelling involved and all games take place at Baysport Arena at Waipapa. Skates, sticks and basic safety gear are all provided so all you have to do is turn up and play.
 
Session times are every Thursday at 4.30, finishing at 5.30. Skating skills training is included every Friday between 4.00 and 5.00. It's advisable to arrive at least fifteen minutes earlier to allow time to put on your skates etc to maximise time on the rink.
 
Cost is $20 joining fee plus $50 per term (two terms per year starting in March and ending in October). We welcome anybody interested and encourage you to come along for a few weeks before you sign up so that you can be certain this is for you.
 
On Thursdays teams will be chosen from those who turn up and a game will be played. It's early days but as we develop the league with more players we may include more training sessions and games, possibly at the weekend.
